Content Security Policy FAQ

What is a Content Security Policy (CSP)?
CSP is an HTTP security header instructing the browser which sources of scripts, styles, images, and network connections are approved to execute on your site. It is the primary defense against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and data injection.
Why should you avoid unsafe-inline and unsafe-eval?
Allowing "unsafe-inline" negates most of CSP’s protection because it lets attackers execute arbitrary inline <script> blocks. "unsafe-eval" enables risky functions like eval(). The recommended approach is using cryptographic nonces or hashes.
Which directive prevents Clickjacking attacks?
The "frame-ancestors" directive restricts which parent sites can embed your page inside an <iframe>. Setting "frame-ancestors 'none'" or "frame-ancestors 'self'" modernizes and replaces legacy X-Frame-Options.
How can I test a CSP policy without breaking my website?
You can deploy it using the "Content-Security-Policy-Report-Only" header alongside "report-uri" or "report-to". Browsers will not block resources, but will send JSON telemetry reports for every detected violation.
Do I need professional help deploying CSP in complex applications?
In sites with third-party tracking, payment gateways, and CDNs, an overly strict CSP may block critical business features. Our team can help you build and enforce a robust policy: request a cybersecurity audit.
